Master a Photography Niche
By photography niche, we mean a focus area or category for your photography subject. While every photographer captures images of all types of genres, many find mastery comes with focus on one or two types of captures. For, some who are able to travel a great deal or who are lucky to live in a geography that is visually appealing, landscape will be an obvious choice. A photographer who can’t for physical reason move often away from their on back yard, might find macro photography a rewarding focus.
It is also likely that a specific subject matter will result in greater mastery and recognition as you publish your work for others. Often each photography niche will require some unique tools and training and expensive to own the required tools and education for all photography genres.
A tour of photography niches using my captured images:
While it is useful to attempt to categorize photography by niche it is also true that there is a lot of overlap and it is unlikely everyone will agree on a definition. For example you might focus on landscape photography but your photography products will often include wild life. And some may focus on a subset of landscape photography such as just mountain scenes. The following are some of the popular photography Niches but there are centrally more:
headshot/personal branding, fashion, senior, new born, toddlers, family
Stock (photos that other people buy from you to use in their marketing)
Weather (usually means storm chasers)
Cinemagraphs (my work)
360 virtual reality (my work)
Above Interactive (a guest speaker we may have)Project 365 (an image per day, or you can do Project 52 for one per week)
